𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐓 𝐎𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐁𝐎𝐃𝐘 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐃, or at least colder than you had thought.
even thought his fingers had been warm when he had painted all over your skin, causing goosebumps all over your body.
your eyes had been trained to his mouth as he had pushed out his tongue, focusing on his work; before he had started to explain the ceremony that you would've had experienced.
the light from the bonfire on your right hit his face making him look like something that you had never seen before, something that you couldn't even put into words.
he was, everything.
that was the only way to explain it.
you couldn't understand how you could feel this things, how you went from being a lone soul walking around pandora to feeling his breath blessing your skin.
you felt like you didn't deserve it.
he didn't deserve to dirt his fingers with your blood-stained soul, his fingertips should've caressed someone pure, someone innocent.
but the way he looked at you made you knew that he would've never saw anyone else the way he saw you.
even thought you didn't want that from him, even thought all you could hope for was that he would be free.
and the worst thing — for you — was that while you were silently begging him to leave you there, all alone;
you still looked at him right into his eyes, with a look that you knew would've trapped even the strongest of the men.
and maybe, just maybe, he knew that you were doing it on purpose.
but it didn't make him less interested on having his fingers caressing your skin, your injuries, your scars,
and his eyes locked with yours.
when his hand took in yours, your heart skipped a beat, your breath stopped in your throat.
he dragged you by your fingers, which were tangled with his.
and as much as you could've been curious about his tribe — which you really weren't —, your eyes would've still been trained to his back, even thought you had memorized the pattern of his whole body.
he could feel your gaze on him, but most of all he could feel the anxiety radiating from your body.
he gave your fingers two squeezes, and a breath of relief left his mouth when he felt you squeeze right back.
there were too many eyes on you, that was the only thing you could think about as you found yourself at the center of the circle.
you had always been a survivor, someone living in the shadow, no need to put the focus on yourself, no need to be noticed — unless you had wanted to die.
and now the whole tribe was observing you, and even if it wasn't the first time, this time there wasn't no fight, no war, no sister, no nothing that could've moved their attention from you.
or your attention from them.
you felt nude without any weapon on you, you felt vulnerable — even thought you knew that your body alone was your deadliest weapon.
their hands started to connect, your worries started to increase, did you really deserved that spot? did your really want that? was it really the best thing to do?
that could've been a trap, they could've done all of that just to distract you..
you felt trapped, you were supposed to feel like a free predator, but their hands were closing on each other's shoulders creating a cage all around you.
you couldn't be that, you couldn't be contained.
they had to know that, how could they not?
after an amount of time — that felt like years to you — different pairs of hand gripped your body.
at this you reconnected back with earth, meeting a familiar gaze in front of you.
neteyam's smile brought comfort to your racing heart, your breath slowed down and your mouth copied his.
that was what you needed to feel at peace, to stop your survival instincts from taking over, to have the reassurance that what you were doing was the right thing.
your eyes were locked with his, and even if you could feel different pairs of eyes burning all over your bodies, neither of you could bring yourselves to look away.
even thought lo'ak's snicker reached your ears, even thought his parents where right there.
his hand touched your shoulder, gripping it slightly, working as an anchor for you.
and while moments before you felt like a deadly beast being put in a locked cage forever, his fingertips caressing your skin made you think the exact opposite.
you couldn't know if it was something normal or not, if you were exaggerating or if it was the only way to put all what you were feeling into words;
but he could.
and for him you were so much more than words.
he knew what you were feeling, he knew that you could read trough each others just with a look, and he knew that you were the only one that could understand him even though you were for the most opposites.
his dad had always told him that opposites attracts but he had never thought about it that much.
maybe it was time to really listen to his parents' words, not only their rules.
you had to keep yourself from rolling you eyes as you watched thousands of thoughts crossing his minds, distracting him.
you bit your lips as your eyes traced the familiars stripes on his face.
and you pretended to not notice the way his orbits quickly moved to your mouth, which brought his focus back to the ceremony — or at least that's what it looked like, and what you hoped it did.
still, a full smile graced your lips as the tshaìk voice broke the look that you two were giving each other; your eyes finally moving from his to hers.
"you're part of the people now."
