he didn't like the moments before, when he could feel his stomach turn upside down over and over and over.
he hated the disgusting liquid that would fill up his mouth.
and he couldn't stand the smell that would stay in his nostrils for lot more than necessary.
that's why he had always tried to not do it, to not throw up.
he would've closed his fist tightly, his nails going deep into the flesh of his hands.
his face contorting as he tried to keep everything into his stomach.
that's what he tried to do that day,
as he watched the hand touch the ground.
as much as he wanted to, he couldn't move his eyes away from the horrible scene.
and as he took in all the blood and all the flesh in front of his eyes he found himself loosing control over his body.
one of his hand wandering to his stomach, trying to bring some comfort to himself.
and before he knew it he was letting everything out.
the disgusting mix of whatever had been in his stomach for the past hours was now in a puddle on the ground.
neteyam's knees buckled under him but thankfully he found support on someone's shoulder.
"that's disgusting" commented lo'ak as he let his big brother laid his weight on him.
he took in his wounded body, the small injuries and the bruises; lo'ak looked for something worse but thankfully there wasn't.
neteyam didn't answered him thought.
his eyes were still focused in front of him and that made the younger sully follow his line of sight.
the breath getting caught in his throat.
there you were, knife in your hand, blood covering your body.
neteyam couldn't understand if it was yours or hers — probably both.
the answer came quickly, your sister held her wrist as her brain realised what had happened.
almost as if she finally connected with reality a scream came out of her throat.
a scream full of pain.
it was a dark and horrible sound that made everyone stop on their tracks, almost hurting their ears.
they all turned around to look at the source of the sound.
she was kneeling in front of you while you stood straight looking down at her.
when she finished the air in her lungs your arm started to move upward, the knife still held tightly between your bloody fingers.
the sharp end of the knife pointed right at the center of her head, which she tilted upwards to look at you.
"do it" she spat at you with fake cockiness, your hand going to grip her hair.
you hissed at her, taking some seconds to look right into her soul.
and then you pushed her away from you, making her body fall down and hit the ground.
only then you took notice of the silence, when she scrambled around defeated, the blood all around her.
you could fell his eyes burn right into your back, even thought you wished they weren't.
you could feel the blood stick to your skin, hers, yours, it didn't mattered.
the thoughts started to flood your mind.
but before you could register them you felt a light breeze hit your body.
a shadow casting above you bringing comfort to your heart.
you started to turn around, everyone's focus on you.
toruk landed right behind you, opening his wigs.
neteyam could've lied and said that he was scared and full of fear, but he didn't.
because as he watched you there, with toruk's wings looking like they were yours, and the tribes at your feet;
he admitted to himself that he had never found anything as beautiful as you in his whole life.
"your leader has surrendered" your voice echoed in the dark air of the night, as your eyes moved around from t'herkaya to t'herkaya.
"follow her path or fight 'till death for what you stand for" you added as you kept your head up, a scary imagine burning deep into their brains.
before you knew it the t'herkaya started to gather their weapons, slowly and silently crawling back into the shadow, hissing at whoever seemed to get too close.
shame could be seen adorning their faces.
"looks like you've failed, sister" you commented while you turned back, looking down to her spot on the dirt.
but she wasn't there.
you quickly looked up, just with a little nervousness in you.
and you caught her right as she limped into the dark.
a sight of relief left your lips, and the corners of your mouth turned upwards as you felt the reptilian skin caressing your cheek.
"you did a very good job" you told him as you brought one hand to scratch just under his chin.
you were looking into the sky, tìkawng's ikran trying to fly away with a ruined wings.
you took notice of how he was reflecting her.
when you realised that you were safe, that you didn't need to fight anymore, you felt the adrenaline wash away.
followed by a call of your name.
you knew who had been waiting for you and you watched as he ran towards you, his brother right behind him.
he wanted to hug you, he wanted to thank you for saving his tribe life, his life.
he wanted to say that you did amazing, that he finally understood everything.
but he couldn't.
"i'm all good, 'teyam" you told him before he could let the words fall from his mouth.
"all good is an exaggeration" commented lo'ak after he had took in your injured body.
suddenly your smiley face turned into a scowl, you hissed right into his face making him back away and hide behind his bigger brother.
"you're safe" screamed a smaller voice just before a pair of little arms wrapped around your waist.
you immediately looked down, your eyes meeting with tuk's big ones.
she was squishing her cheeks against your stomach — thankfully on the non-injured side — as she looked up at you with a big smile.
"you had doubts?" you questioned back, even thought your tone could've seemed hostile your hands unconsciously lowered down, going to pat her head and back.
"nop" she answered popping the 'p'.
you looked up once again, now seeing kiri in front of you.
she had a smile of her own, but as you took in her beautiful aura you finally noticed the red contrasting with her blue skin.
and you frenetically moved your eyes on the others, why haven't you noticed before?
neteyam saw, of course he did, and he understood.
"i'll need help patching up" he suddenly talked , moving your attention away from the younger sullys and back on him.
you knew what he was doing, and he knew you did.
he was pretending that he was gonna need help because he knew that you couldn't let the others see you weak, even more after the fight.
because even if you weren't a monster like they had described you, you could still become one.
so as you let neteyam drag you away from the siblings and inside one of the tent you missed lo'ak doing kissy faces behind your back.
but you also missed the fact that jake and neytiri had looked at everything, seeing the interactions between what they thought was a killer and their children.
and as they shared one small glances full of thousands of words, only one thing came up into their mind.
they were afraid of what would've happened, but they knew that it was the best thing.
they just hoped that there wouldn't be too much consequences.
