24 — HE WHO KNOWS
then came the last person eunsang would like to see in such situation.
he just wants to mind his own business, is that too much to ask?
—
"eunsang?"
junho has his attention shifted across the room exclusively to eunsang, as the restrained look on his face softens only by the sight of him. the room falls dead silent, with only the sound of eunsang's feet shifting quickly through the fallen books towards the exit. "junho," he mumbles under his breath. as he was moments away from getting his hands on him, seungyoun grabs his hand, stopping him.
"let me go." eunsang grumbles.
"eunsa—"
"hyung—"
"listen to me,"
"let me go," he repeats again, his voice rising. he forces his strength and gets rid of seungyoun's grip, before he proceeds his way towards junho, dragging the boy away with him.
a voice creeps inside his head, and without doubt it has to be seungyoun's. lee eunsang, i—
as if he hits a dismiss button, eunsang shoves the message away out from his head. not now, seungyoun. not now. he thought to himself. he never knew his powers include being able to filter any of seungyoun's messages sent to him. it might come off as rude, but to him it might as well be considered handy at least for the moment.
junho stays away from the x1 agenda. he needs to be safe, and him knowing nothing probably would end up being the best option for him and the both of us.
he takes junho far enough from the rest of the boys, as he prepares the whole scenario he ought to tell to him to explain the situation. junho did not go against him, he instead keeps himself composed as he follows eunsang wherever he's bringing him to. from the looks of it however he doesn't look as calm.
the moment they reach a quiet place, the boy immediately unleashes his fair confusion and disfavor. he glares at eunsang. "what was that for? the moment i stepped in, you were throwing books all over the floor! what did those books ever do to you?!"
great, he did not see the part where the books starts to levitate then. eunsang lets the boy talk first, giving him time so that every piece of anger he manages to pile up is broken down immediately. "and the people, the students who were with you there. i checked the place out because i saw seungwoo-ssi getting into the room without any notice, i was quite confused as to why he was here in general as he doesn't even go here anymore, why is he still wandering at school then? i thought it had to do with you disappearing at every subject after lunch break and turns out it did! right there, there was you in the room. and hyeongjun. and minhee. and SON DONGPYO!" he growls at the last part. "i mean, in what circumstances were you in to the point you had to be in the same room as him? i thought you hate him to bits!"
"i do—"
"i'm not finished yet," junho cuts him. "it just makes me wonder, eunsang. i think it was a bad decision for me to register you into the olympiad team, because it seems like you don't even have any interest on it instead—"
"hey, it was a great idea. i enjoy being partners with you." eunsang points out. "the olympiad has nothing to do with it. i'm sorry i had to leave you alone again like that, something important came up and i couldn't dismiss it."
"what happened?" junho raises his eyebrow.
you got this, eunsang. a lie you've practiced on for a while. "seungyoun-hyung, he has some kind of a project thing for his company. he needs representatives from our school, and unfortunately i was pulled into the group. so now he needs us basically almost everyday, filling up documents and research papers for his documentary." he explains. "it's such a big pile of work, so be glad that you're not a part of it. i myself regret that i got myself dragged into this."
junho looks at him strangely. "is that so?"
eunsang replies with a nod.
junho sighs. "you should've told me about it,"
"you'd regret it, just like me."
"yeah, but at least i could've gone through it with you— i mean," junho stops his sentence, his jaw clenching tightly. "nevermind, that was nothing."
"so we're even, right?" eunsang smiles.
"i guess so.."
"great! to repay the time i took for myself alone, we should walk home together to catch up with the preparations." eunsang hurries his way to the previous physics classroom, taking his bag.
"go home, together?"
"yeah, you told me our neighborhood's quite close to each other right?" eunsang smiles. "i usually go by bus, but let's just walk home as the sky's still quite bright. perhaps you could give me a recap on the parts that i missed."
"uh, um.. okay.." junho looks quite unsure, but he agrees anyway.
the two boys stop by to the classroom for a while to get their bags, with eunsang finally gets a hand of his handphone after quite long. he checks on the latest notifications he's gotten.
24 missed calls by seungyoun hyung
he closes his phone. he might had dedicated the most of his day for x1, so it wouldn't hurt to dedicate one evening for his best friend, wouldn't it?

somewhere around seoul among the tall and modernized buildings lies the strangest looking of them all, with a hook-shaped skyscraper as its main architecture. the lower floors of the building remains busy as it is filled with office workers. the highest floor however is occupied by a well-renowned businessman, known for his mischief and his clever way of retrieving money. the old man sits on his sofa seat, staring at the panoramic view of the city from above.
the door strikes open, yet he did not flinch a bit. this one guest of his really does have the tendency to forget his manners.
"you shouldn't have interfered with my work by terrorizing my secretaries just to ask for my presence, i had to stop a whole planned meeting with people from the blue house because you kept pressuring them."
"just like you shouldn't have interfered with my work."
the latter stares at him. "what's this about again?"
"one of my researchers set a complaint about you disrupting his work, saying that you threatened him with paperwork worth to bring him to jail." the businessman chides. "you took his only volunteer that is qualified for the research—"
he sneers. "volunteer, my ass."
"language."
"he's a prisoner. just like the rest of the 'volunteers' you have trapped in that embodiment of hell you call your 'office'." he snaps. "i took him away because i told you, he's under my protection. you may not lay a finger on any of them, not in my watch."
"how foolish of you." the old man coincides. "you're only doing this because that was what she told you to do."
"i'm only continuing her legacy."
"don't you see? i'm the only one who's trying to find a solution here." the old man puts both of his hands on the table. "those boys, those you are too busy protecting, they could be the answer behind all of this. why are you having so much trouble accepting it?"
"your confidence, it disgusts me." the younger man grumbles. "you disgust me. you and your hidden ambition behind everything— it's not a surprise that she left you in the first place." he raises a hand. "are we done here? i've wasted too much time getting myself here in the first place."
he turns around. the old man raises his voice. "don't feel so comfortable, young man. just because you feel like you're the one in power, just because you hold the authority, that does not mean everyone's guaranteed safe."
"stop trying to intimidate me, it doesn't work."
"my present awaits you. you might get an info about it later this evening." the old man cracks a smile. "i really hope you'll like it."
without turning his head back, the young man quickly leaves the cursed room, dismantling himself from the narrative. although he is still very young by age, his maturity succeeds him. holding the position as ceo moments after he graduated highschool, he has no trouble handling a bunch of medical companies all at once.
as threatening as the old man might have sound, he knows he wouldn't have trouble handling him too.
... right?
