"what're we doing here?"
the weather was nice and warm, and you'd decided it was a good idea to spend the day at the theme park. you were planning on going for weeks now, but the thought of going alone made you put it off.
"what do you mean 'what're we doing here?' you're the one that wanted to hang out with me." you huffed.
"sorry, i didn't mean it like that. i just, why the theme park? it seems like a very generic date."
your lips curled into a smile. "did you just call this a date, kuroo tetsuro?"
"wait i didn't mean we were on one i just—"
"mhmmm, there's no getting yourself out of this one. you thought this was a date, huh?" you crossed your hands over your chest and smirked at him. once you took a closer look, he was dressed rather nicely, but maybe he just had good style.
"maybe i did." he mumbled. "but i'm slightly offended that you didn't."
you only chuckled. "never have expectations, kuroo. that way you'll never be disappointed." you beamed.
"what are you, a philosophy major?" he scoffed.
"let's just say i'm all knowing." you shrugged.
"great, she has a god complex." he muttered to himself, but it didn't escape you.
you walked ahead, smiling to yourself. "oh boy, you have no idea."

you dragged kuroo on ride after ride, somehow never getting tired. you tried to be considerate of him, though, and took breaks here and there and bought him light snacks as a compensation for putting up with your energetic self. normally, you'd be more laid back and composed, but the feeling of being in the air was something you missed terribly.
your smile was unmatched when you were suspended in midair, it felt like you were back in paradise again. and having kuroo next to you throughout it all made it even better. sure, he wasn't your fiancé, and things weren't the same as they were back in the day, but you were friends, or at least, beginning to be. and that was a start.
after a few more rides, the two of you sat down on a bench near a food stall and kuroo left to order for you two. "put it on my card." you offered holding it out. "just tap." he seemed hesitate but you placed the card in his hand and folded his fingers over it. "i'm not broke, you know? i have a stable job. just use the card, kuroo."
"fine." he grudgingly agreed. "but next time, i'm paying."
"oh, there's going to be a next time is there?" you teased, causing him flash you a confident smile.
"i'm great company. anyone would want to spend more time with me. heck, i would want to spend more time with me." he bragged.
"up your own ass much?"
"can't help it when i've got such divine looks, and a very spicy personality to top it off."
you rolled your eyes playfully. "and i'm the one with a god complex."
"yes you are." he insisted.
"i am a god, there's a difference." you groaned, running a hand through your hand.
"yeah. sure." he responded airily, showing that he wasn't buying it.
"screw it, you're not going to believe me anytime soon. give me my card back, you can pay for your own food." you grumbled.
"what happened to treating me to free food?" he pouted.
"i only buy food for people who actually believe me."
"i do believe you!"
"liar." you scoffed. "i saw my contact name on your phone. it's goddess but with inverted commas. what's that supposed to mean, huh?"
"crap, you saw that, kitten?"
"don't you go trying to distract me with your pet names, it won't work." you scolded. truth be told, it would work. that's exactly why you had to stop him then and there before you went all soft for him.
he pulled out his phone for a moment and fixed something, before turning his screen to you. "is that better?"
your name was saved as 'goddess', but this time, without the inverted commas mocking you.
"much." you grinned.
"great, i'll buy us food now." he said, standing up, placing your card in front of you.
"wait, use the—"
"i have money too. i'll pay." he insisted.
"then why'd you change my name on your phone? i thought you wanted free food."
"i wanted you to stop being mad at me, there's a difference, kitten."
"fuck you." you mumbled, to which he responded by ruffling your hair and leaning in close to your ear.
"i mean, if you really want me to." he whispered and you swatted his hand away.
"fuck off." you corrected your words and he put some space between you with an amused laugh.
"wait right here, i'll go get the food." he told you and walked off. the moment he turned his back to you, you buried your face in your hands, your cheeks flushing. somehow, you'd managed to pull off not appearing flustered at first, but when he left what he'd said really registered in your head, causing your cheeks to heat up.
it had been 5 minutes and you were still busy cursing him out for his charm. "stupid, stupid, stupid. who gave him the right to be that slick? annoyingly smooth little piece of—"
"wow, easy on the curses there l/n. if i were any dumber i'd think you were falling for me." kuroo sat down at the bench, setting the tray down first.
"very funny." you muttered, not denying his statement. if you were to get technical about it, you'd already fallen for him. many years ago. centuries ago, if you wanted to be accurate. he just had no way of knowing that yet.
"is something wrong?" he asked after a few minutes.
you looked up at him, puzzled. "what do you mean?"
"you're... strangely quiet."
"oh, it's just because i'm eating." you assured him. "and i think i'm finally starting to feel tired."
that was a lie. god's didn't experience physical exhaustion without using their powers, but he didn't have to know the minor details. there was no way you'd admit you were thinking about your past with him.
"if you say so." he didn't sound convinced, but he didn't push it either.
the two of you ate in silence, and this time, instead of reminiscing in the past, you found yourself smiling at today's events, the faces he made on the roller coasters and how right it felt to have him by your side. this silence was a lot more comfortable than the last.
"hey, kuroo."
"yeah?" he looked at you, almost hopeful.
"i had fun today."
his smile faltered for a moment before he nodded. "me too."
the two of you exchanged good byes and parted ways, but as you were walking, he grabbed your hand.
you turned to face him with a questioning look on your face. "what is it?"
"can we do this again sometime?" he asked you.
you flashed him a smile. "i thought that was already settled. didn't you say you were paying next time?"
his smile mirrored yours. "i guess i did."
"i'll see you soon, kuroo."
"you better." he mock threatened. "or i'll change your name to 'witch' on my phone."
you fake gasped. "you wouldn't dare."
"i better see you around." he called, walking backwards.
"yeah yeah, whatever you say, rooster head."
