Chapter 10
Rayne could smell something burning as soon as she opened her bedroom door. She ran out to find Paige cursing herself, standing in front of the fire alarm trying to rush the smoke out of the way. Rayne quickly grabbed a stool and stood on top of it as she pressed a button on the fire alarm, turning it off. She turned to look at her friend, who now had tears in her eyes from standing in the smoke for far too long.
Rayne urged her friend to wash her face.
Paige splashed some water on her face and groaned in relief as the water hit her eyes.
"Paige, I love you. But you can't cook to safe your life," Rayne scoffed.
"As usual, I did not think this through." Paige lifted up her head to see Rayne with a towel for her to clean herself.
"Never go near the stove again. The next time, just have some cereal or wake me up, okay?"
"Fine," Paige mumbled.
"Go take a shower, I'll clean this up," Rayne offered.
Paige started towards her room, then turned back on her heel as if she remembered something.
"By the way, Miss, where were you last night? When did you come home? Did you even come home?" Paige bombarded the brunette with questions. The latter parted her lips to answer, but was cut off again.
"You did come home, seeing you're in your pajamas. But I'm not sure when though. You came at 3, didn't you?"
"I did not come home at 3! I was here before 12, Paige," Rayne said defensively, as she started to clean up the mess the blonde girl had made earlier.
"Well, I wouldn't know. I had an early night. Where were you anyway?"
"Okay, now that's too many questions. I need a breather. I'll meet you after your shower," Rayne practically pushed her friend out of the kitchen into her room.
Paige was not always like this. But the things that happened with Sean made her a little over protective of her naive friend. Rayne was grateful for her friend for having her back and she knew that it was for her own good. So she had started going along with it. She didn't trust herself enough to make her own decisions at the moment, so Paige seemed like a godsend to her.

Rayne came out of her bedroom, dressed in a burgundy full sleeved dress, that ended just below her knees, giving her an elegant look.
"I met Sean today." She decided to break the news in the worst possible way.
"Excuse me," Paige scoffed, "You did what today? Oh! Please don't tell me that was who you went out with last night. I might actually kill him then." Paige looked at her friend with scorned eyes. She hated Sean, and she made sure to show it every time they spoke about him.
"Ew, No!" Rayne felt nauseated at the very thought. She grabbed a seat beside her friend.
"Thank god you didn't. Really hope you gave him a black eye though." Paige had a cheeky smile dancing on her face.
"Paige! You can't say stuff like that!" Rayne continued, "But about that, he did suffer a nose bleed." She poured herself a cup of coffee that Paige made for her, raising the cup to show her approval.
Paige smiled at her friend, who just might sell everything to get a cup of coffee. Rayne was weird like that, she had a tad bit of an addiction towards caffeine and never tried to hide it.
"Wait, so no black eyes, but nose bleeds are fine?I don't know how that works for the general public, but it's Sean we're talking about, so it's good. It's all good." Paige chuckled.
"No, idiot! I didn't hit him. I can't even speak up to him, let alone hit him in the face," Rayne shrugged, "Remember the 'guy on the sidewalk' ? He did."
Rayne never mentioned about random guys on the street to her friend. But Sebastian was no random guy. Rayne could feel something different about him. Something familiar. So, as soon as she met Paige for lunch that day, she told her best friend about him, wondering whether he was someone they went to college with.
"Well, what was he doing there? You're going out with random guys now?" She enquired, as she got up and paced around their flat looking for her bag.
"He was in the café. Didn't think being at the same time at the same place could be considered as dates now," Rayne spoke as she took another sip of her coffee.
Paige may suck at cooking, but she did make a killer coffee. They've always shared their chores, with Paige helping with cleaning and cutting veggies, while Rayne cooked.
"So, what's the deal with him?" Paige questioned referring to 'the guy on the sidewalk'. She was still searching for her bag, which was probably not even in the house. This was just Paige being her chaotic self at 8 in the morning.
"He just seems so familiar, you know. It's like, I know him from somewhere but can't put my finger on it," she continued, "he took me to the Rage Room." A smile formed on her lips, as she thought back to the previous night.
"Weird place for a first date, but whatever." Paige halted, too tired, searching for something that might not even be there. So she was stood in the middle of the room as if her bag was about to spring into her hands from the ceiling.
"For the thousandth time, it was not a date. He probably looked at my dead eyes and decided that this girl desperately needs some fun in her life." Rayne stood up and went to the kitchen to load the dishwasher. Near the dishwasher, she found the bag that her friend had spent the last few minutes searching.
Who leaves a whole bag near the dishwasher?
Only Paige.
"Okay, don't fall into anything too soon, okay? Just text him for now, yeah?" Paige was still standing, not bothering to check the time, not considering that she had an earlier shift, earlier than Rayne.
Rayne came out of the kitchen with Paige's bag and that sight alone made the blonde to run towards her friend and take her in an embrace. "You're a lifesaver," Paige took her bag from Rayne's hands.
"Nah, I'm not a lifesaver. You're just really good at misplacing stuff. You doing this in a surgery will forever be my worst nightmare, you know?" Rayne mocked her friend, who was now pouting.
"That would be way more funnier than this," Paige chuckled.
"What's funny? You going to jail for killing a man would be funny?" Rayne wore a bewildered expression as she looked at her friend.
"That's less funnier, now that you say it out loud. Rayne! Stop attacking me at such an early morning, I still haven't found my will to live," Paige pretended to clutch at her heart.
Rayne just shook her head at her friend.
"Alright, I'll see you soon, yeah? I'm taking your car, mine broke down. Just hitch a ride with Matthew today, please?" Paige waved at her friend and made her way towards the door. Then stopped on her tracks like she always does when she remembered something.
"What did you say his name was?"
Rayne immediately knew who Paige was talking about.
"Sebastian." She turned away from her friend's eyes as she felt her cheeks grow red, for reasons she didn't know yet.
"That's such a hot name. Well, I only know one 'Sebastian'. Not that he knows me though. He plays Bucky in the MCU. He's such a cool guy," she corrected herself, "I-I mean, a hot guy. Also very cool, very very cool," Paige was talking more to herself now, since Rayne was too distracted, looking at her phone, which flashed, notifying her of an incoming text.
She decided to filter out the blonde girl's fan-girling and thought of a nice way to reply to Sebastian's 'Good Morning :)'
Paige muttered to herself on her way to the car, "Who am I kidding? This girl hasn't watched a single movie her whole life."
