Chapter 2

"I've never seen you like this, Seb. Not even after...." Anthony trailed off.

"Something is wrong with me, Anthony. I can feel it. I keep screwing up these relationships. Do you know what Cassie said the day we broke up?" Sebastian was talking more to himself.

He got flashbacks from that day. It's been 23 days since that, but it was still fresh in his mind.

It was their 1 year anniversary the previous night. He had made a reservation for them in her favourite Italian restaurant. Then how could he forget about it ?

Cassie was important to him, that's why he made the reservation a month before. He even had plans to take her to mini golf, though he hated it. How could he forget about this?

She had waited for an hour in the restaurant, while he was getting hammered in a pub. He'd switched off his mobile and she couldn't reach him because of that.

She came home to an empty bed that night, and had cried herself to sleep. She liked him, she could see a future with him and she wanted to work this out. She was ready to let this pass. But she just wanted to know, what was holding him back. It was like, there was something between them.

So, she decided to ask him about it.

He came back the next day and apologized for it. But what could he say ? That she was important enough for him to make arrangements, but not important enough for him to remember that ?

He couldn't bear to see her hurt. He definitely didn't want to be the person who's hurting her.

He might have gotten together with her in an impulse, but she had grown on him. They had their moments, but they were happy.

He understood that he had to work on himself. He did like her, and that's why he let her go. He broke up with her because he liked her enough to want her to be happy. If not with him, then with someone else. He knew that he couldn't string her along. It wasn't fair to her. If there was a chance for one of them to be happy, he would take it. Because, he did love Cassie. Just not enough.

When she was about to leave, she looked him straight in the eyes and said, "I knew this was too good to be true. I knew you couldn't forget your past. But I hoped. I hoped that we might have something. I hoped for a life with you. But you're throwing it all away, Sebastian. You're throwing it away for something, that is beyond my understanding. You had your shot at happiness and you blew it. You're destroying yourself. And I'm not sticking around to watch that happen."

Sebastian knew what she meant. He didn't know if Cassie knew about everything, but he also didn't want to find out. He was broken beyond repair, but he didn't want to accept that.

"You broke up with Cassie,?" Anthony stared at him. "What do you mean, you broke up with Cassie? I thought you were over it. Over Rayne. Don't you know that there's no future there ? Oh my God, Sebastian. How could you be so stupid? I thought you were over Her. You were happy with Cassie. But you threw that away. For what ? She won't remember you. It's been so many years. She won't even remember you, Seb. Why won't you just let Her go, Seb?"

"Let Her go? How can I let Her go? She's my escape."

AN

I feel like I should explain.

Sebastian broke up Cassie because of someone else, Rayne. That person is being referred to as 'Her'.

I know it's a small chapter, but I wanted it to end here.

Thank you for reading!

Hope you have a great day!
