โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€ +:โ€งโ‚Šห‘ ๐Ÿ‰ THE STORY OF THE BLACK DRAGON AND IT'S POWERS dates all the way back to a time before bending was manifested. Before the first ever avatar walked the earth. It was a story that meant a lot to the four nations.

ย  ย  ย ย  TO THE FIRE NATION, the black dragon meant power and honor.
ย  ย  ย ย  TO THE EARTH KINGDOM, The black dragon meant wealth and hardship
ย  ย  ย ย  TO THE AIR NOMADS, the black dragon meant peace and longevity.
ย  ย  ย ย  TO THE WATER TRIBES, the black dragon meant strength and wisdom.

ย  ย  ย  It meant a lot to everyone. This higher being. For the black dragon, though it was thought to be a fairytale, was a real being. Thousands of years ago, Akuma, the only living black dragon, roamed the earth as its protector. It protected the nature, the creatures that lived on the green planet, the stars and the elements.
ย  ย
ย  ย ย  It's fire burned blacker than the night sky but glowed white, it's scales rivaled even the shiniest and blackest of obsidian. It's eyes were brighter than any gold that could be found in the earth, and it's heart was bigger than the universe.

ย  ย ย  Akuma loved life and it loved the beings that lived together in harmony. Which was why it protected this earth for centuries. But even legends must die, some times.
ย  ย ย
ย  ย ย  When Akuma left this earth, it didn't want to pass on. Akuma still wanted to protect the home they loved so much. So instead of passing over to the spirit world, Akuma's soul searched for years to find a reincarnation to live in.

ย  ย  ย  A vessel with a pure heart, a soul as fiery and powerful as a phoenix, eyes and strength as strong as a dragon.

ย  ย  ย ย  And Akuma found it in a baby. But not any normal baby. A baby girl who was that of the element fire. And her name is Azuna.

ย  ย ย  Princess Azuna of the Fire Nation was raised to believe that her beautiful home where the sun always shined, was the best in the world. But at an early age, she was always a bright kid. And her eyes were way too good at seeing through things.

ย  ย  At an early age, she was able to see the error of her once beautiful home's ways and how her father's gaslighting ways affected her and her siblings.

ย  ย  And it only amplified when her bending manifested. When Azuna and Azula turned 4 years old, they had a grand party in the palace. Many rich and important people of the Fire Nation attended to show their love for the Fire Lord and his daughters.

ย ย  They brought gifts of all sorts. Jewels, gold, expensive fabrics and many other things to appease the two little princesses. For if they were not happy with their presents, Ozai would banish them.

ย  ย  And while they were walking on egg shells the entire time, one little boy decided to be brave and do the unthinkable.

ย  ย ย  Azuna gave her last piece of cake to herr good friend, Ty Lee, seeing as the circus performer didn't get to have any. So she wanted to show her kindness and offer her the last piece.

ย  ย  But as Ty Lee was about to enjoy it, a little boy from a prominent wealthy family ran up to her and smashed the cake in her face, causing Ty Lee to cry.

ย  ย  Azuna watched as he laughed in her face as she felt anger rise in her veins. That anger grew to a new heights and her eyes burned with a ferocity that resembled a dragon.

ย  ย  And that's when it happened.

ย ย  Azuna's fire bending manifested completely. Her glare alone caused a sudden burst of black fire to appear and burn the boy's hands pretty badly. The candles around the party turned black, startling the guests. The lanterns burned because of her fire and it grew as she became more angry.

ย  ย  But what stopped her from harming the boy completely was his cries. His screams brought her back to her senses and with that, the fire died completely. And when she saw what she had done, Azuna cried. She wept and wept, not understanding what was going on fully. But she never meant to hurt anyone.

ย  ย  And while everyone looked at the princess with fear and fascination, Ozai gazed upon his daughter with awe and excitement.

ย  ย  The stories were true. The fairy tales he heard as a child were true......The black dragon was real.
ย ย
ย  ย  And his daughter was the black dragon. He produced the very first black fire bender in the world and he couldn't be more prouder of her than he already was.ย  She was going to be his next heir. She was going to become his successor. And she was going to be the one who will make him the Phoenix King.

ย  ย  But Azuna didn't want that. She never wanted that. She didn't want to hurt anyone anymore. And after she turned 7, she decided that enough was enough. She couldn't take the pressure, the harshness and the pain she caused others anymore.

ย  ย  So she ran away. She stowed away in a ship towards the Water tribes. Not knowing what she was going to do or where she was going. But anywhere than where she was previously was better.

ย  ย  And because she didn't want to be found out, she lived in a icy cave on the outskirts of the nearby Southern Water Tribes. Away from the civilization. Scared that they would find her and turn her in.

ย  ย  But that wasn't the case at all.

ย  ย ย  ย

ย  ย ย  YOUNG KATARA was only the same age as Azuna when she found her. She was playing with the other village kids during the day when she strayed too far away from them, following a little penguin out of curiosity.

ย  ย  When the baby penguin slid down a medium sized slope, she peered over it, hoping to see more of them. But was met with a different sight. A more shocking sight.

ย  ย  She found a little girl sitting in front of the small water bank with a pile of sticks in front of her. She was only wearing a black furry hooded cloak and no gloves. Her hair was impossibly long and her eyes resembled the color of the sun.

ย ย  She obviously didn't belong in their region and her appearance gave that away but what gave it away more was her bending. She watched the little girl blow red fire onto the sticks, creating a fire pit for her.

ย  ย  Katara gasped quietly as her eyes widened at the sight. A fire bender was near their home! She must tell her father!
ย
ย ย  And that exactly what she was going to do but Katara looked at her again. She was only a child. Her age, to be exact. And she watched as the little girl tossed a small red cloth containing the Fire Nation's symbol on it into the fire. Like she was disgusted by it. And that made her curious of her.

ย  ย  So, from that day on, Katara found herself watching the little girl from afar, in secret, almost everyday.

ย  ย  She would even start taking fish from the fishermen and quickly leaving it where the little girl would find it and then going back into hiding to see her reaction.

ย ย  This had went on for about 3 weeks. Until one day, Katara built up the courage to finally confront the girl.

ย  ย  At first, the two were wary of each other. Not knowing what to say or do, their opposite personalities clashed a bit. But after a while, the two little girls warmed up to each other. Azuna learned to trust her and Katara learned that not all Fire Benders were bad. They couldn't be. Or at least not her.

ย  ย  And they shared their hatred for the communist nation together. Azuna opened up about why she left and Katara opened up about what happened to her mother. And because of that, Azuna felt an incredible amount of guilt.

ย  ย  Which only made her realize the evil her people has done to this world. Everything her family has done to this world.

ย  ย  For a while, their secret friend went on for a while. A long while, actually. Before Katara's father, one day, followed his daughter to her location.

ย  ย  There had been many times where Katara was late to dinner and would disappear during the day, only to come back with a smile on her face and that was very different than how she usually was lately.

ย ย  So he wanted to know where she would sneak off to. Also, to reprimand her for straying too far away from him and everyone else. But when he saw her playing with a little girl, laughing and cheering, he couldn't bring himself to do it.

ย ย  Katara didn't have much to smile for after his wife was taken away from him and this little girl somehow brought life to his daughter's eyes again.

ย  ย  He could tell she was a fire bender. But he didn't believe in placing the sins of a nation onto a small child who had nothing to do with it. Azuna was only a child. The same age as his daughter and she was in need of a home.

ย  ย  So he took her in. Despite the reservations of his people, he refused to have her living on her own. Because no child should ever have to survive on their own. Escpecially in the weather they lived in.

ย  ย  Azuna was nervous. She knew the village knew about her bending and, in the beginning, they didn't trust her much. But as time went on, that trust slowly grew like a flower in the earth. The people trusted her and started treating her like she was one of them.

ย  ย  And alas, Azuna found a family. A real family.

ย  ย  That's the beginning of her road to becoming the hero and leader that the Fire Nation needed.

ย  ย  ย ย  This is her story.
